Tune XP and the level curve

Change how members earn XP in Colossus with rules and multipliers, choose who earns and where, pick a level curve such as MEE6's, add prestige, and change one member's XP.

Every plan

XP comes from rules and multipliers under Rewards › Earning XP › Rules; the level curve, prestige and who earns are under Settings on the same page. Changing them needs Manager or Admin access. Free keeps the two starting rules and adds multipliers; writing your own rules, the curve and the limits are Pro.

How members earn: XP rules such as minutes with a message, replies and voice minutes, then multipliers such as double XP at weekends.

Add an XP rule

Each rule reads as a sentence: When what is counted, Only if where, Then how much XP.

  1. Press New rule and choose New rule.
  2. Under When, pick what counts: messages, minutes with a message, words, replies, reactions given or received, mentions, voice, streaming or camera minutes, commands, emoji, minutes in an app, and more.
  3. Under Only if, Add condition limits it to some channels or leaves some out. Voice rules choose which voice states count and whether time alone counts; app rules choose which apps.
  4. Under Then, set the XP each one gives. Add action adds A random amount up to a second number, or A cap per hour, day or week.
  5. Press Save.

Enabled on a rule's row switches it off without removing it; the row also offers Duplicate and Remove.

Add an XP multiplier

A multiplier multiplies the XP every rule gives, from ×1 to ×100, such as double XP at weekends or for boosters. When several apply at once, only the highest counts.

  1. Press New rule and choose New multiplier. A new multiplier offers ready ones: weekends, evenings, this week and newcomers.
  2. Under When, Add time picks days of the week, hours of the day or dates.
  3. Under Only if, Add condition picks channels, roles members hold, or new members within a number of days.
  4. Under Then, set the factor.
  5. Press Save.

To boost a role's holders from the perk that belongs to that role, see Give perks to supporters and boosters.

Switched-on rules that earn XP and multipliers that haven't ended count together: up to 5 on Free, 20 on Pro and any number on Titan. Those past the limit stay as written, marked Not earning.

What happens when you change how XP is earned

While levelling is on, saving a change asks how it counts. Apply from now on leaves XP already earned as it is. On Titan, Recount from history recounts everyone's past activity under the new rules and moves levels and roles without announcing anything.

Each change is marked on the annotations timeline under Earning XP, so Pulse can measure what it did.

Choose who earns XP and where

On Pro, Who and where counts under Settings holds three settings for the whole server. Press Save after changing them.

  • Doesn't count in: channels or categories where nothing earns XP.
  • only if they have: only members with these roles earn.
  • unless they have: members with these roles earn nothing.

Use MEE6's level curve, or your own

The level curve sets how much XP each level takes. On Pro:

  1. Under Settings › How levels add up, press Level curve.
  2. Pick Default, Table of levels to type each level's XP, Your own formula, or under Other bots the curve of MEE6, Arcane, Atlas, Kiai, Nadeko, Lurkr, Amari or Dyno.
  3. Press Save.

Everyone keeps their XP; levels are worked out again on the new curve. If anyone moves down, the save says how many first, and roles above their new level go.

Add prestige

  1. Under How levels add up, set Highest level.
  2. For members at the highest level, choose start over (prestige): they start over at level 0, one prestige up.
  3. Set Growth per climb, how much more XP each new climb takes, and Longest climb, the most a climb can take as a multiple of the first.
  4. Press Save.

A perk can give a role for a prestige, and a level perk can be limited to one prestige; see Give roles for levels and activity.

Change one member's XP

On Pro, open Analytics › Lens › Members, pick the member and open Levelling. Under Change XP, choose Add, Remove or Set to, enter the XP and a reason, and press Apply. Levels reached this way are never announced.

If it doesn't work

  • A rule shows Not earning. The plan's limit is reached. Switch another rule or multiplier off, or upgrade.
  • A rule's XP can't be changed. Changing the starting rules and writing your own needs Pro.
