Set up levelling
To start levelling, switch on an XP rule under Rewards › Earning XP, add a perk that gives a role at a level, and choose where level-ups are announced. It needs Manager or Admin access and works on every plan. Coming from MEE6 or another levelling bot? Import your members' levels first, so nobody starts from zero.
Turn on levelling
- Open Rewards › Earning XP › Rules.
- Switch on Enabled on a rule's row, such as the one for minutes with a message, and press Save. Levelling is on while any rule that earns XP is. Levels are worked out from what Colossus has already recorded, and nothing is announced for them.
- In Discord, under Server Settings › Roles, drag the Colossus role above every role it should give.
Members now have /rank and /leaderboard.
Set up level roles
- Open Rewards › Perks and press New perk.
- Under When, press Pick a condition, choose Has, then level, and type the level.
- Under Then, the perk gives a new role: type its name, or press a new role to pick a role the server already has.
- Press Save, check who gains or loses the role, and confirm.
Repeat for each level. Already giving roles for levels by hand? Press Import existing roles instead, pick the roles, and confirm the level Colossus suggests for each. See Give roles for levels and activity for everything a perk can do.
Announce level-ups
Open Rewards › Level-ups & cards › Level-ups and choose Where to announce. See Level-up messages and rank cards.
How members earn XP by default
Every server starts with two rules, both off: 6 XP for each minute in which a member sends a message, however many they send in it, and 1 XP for each minute in voice with someone else. Deafened and AFK time doesn't count. Change them, or add your own, on Tune XP and the level curve.
Channels, categories and roles Colossus doesn't record earn nothing, and members who ran /opt-out hold no XP.
Turn levelling off
Switch off every rule that earns XP. XP keeps counting in the background, but members can't see it, /rank and /leaderboard are removed, and nothing is announced. Turning a rule back on picks up the same roles.
If it doesn't work
- A role doesn't arrive. The Colossus role sits below it, or the bot lacks Manage Roles. Rewards › Perks shows Role changes Discord refused at the top; hover it for what Discord said.
- A role can't be picked. Another perk already gives it, or it grants moderation or server-wide permissions and you lack every team permission; see Choose the role a perk gives.
- Level-ups don't post. The bot can't see or post in the channel. Level-ups lists Messages Discord refused.
- The save doesn't show who gains a role. On a very large server, role changes aren't previewed.
