Mark events on your charts

Add annotations for launches, streams and raids so they show on every chart, mark a channel's posts automatically with a rule, and see what each event did to activity.

Every plan

An annotation marks a moment, such as a launch, a stream or a raid, on every chart in Colossus, so you can see what changed around it. Add them by hand, or let a rule mark every post in a channel. Anyone who reads analytics sees them; adding and changing them needs Manager or Admin access.

Intelligence › Annotations › Timeline lists every mark on a dated rail: those added by hand, by a rule, by a giveaway, and by a change to Earning XP. Annotations on charts in a chart's toolbar shows or hides them on charts.

The annotations timeline: marks on a dated rail over the last 90 days, and the list beneath it with each mark's dates, title and source.

Add an annotation

  1. On Timeline, press New annotation.
  2. Write what happened, up to 200 characters, and a note if you like, up to 2,000.
  3. Set the date and time, in the server's time zone. For something that lasted, press Add end and set when it ended.
  4. Press Add annotation.

You can also press a moment on a full-screen or enlarged chart to mark it there; press an existing mark to change or delete it. A server holds up to 5,000 annotations added by hand.

Mark a channel's posts automatically

A rule adds a mark whenever a message is posted in a channel, such as your announcements. It notices only that a message was posted, never what it says.

  1. Open Intelligence › Annotations › Rules and press New rule.
  2. Under When, pick the channel.
  3. Under Then, write the title each mark carries. Press a variable under it to fill in the channel, the number of messages, the date or the time. Add action adds a note.
  4. Choose from now on, or from earlier posts to also mark past posts, as far back as your plan and the server's retention reach.
  5. Press Save.

Enabled on a rule's row switches it off without removing it. A server holds 2 rules on Free, 10 on Pro and 200 on Titan. Discord scheduled events are marked by a built-in rule, which doesn't count towards these and can only be switched on or off.

See what an event did

Impact: recent annotations, each with how messages, voice and joins moved in the three days after it compared with the week before.

On Pro and Titan, Intelligence › Pulse › Impact, below the findings, takes recent annotations, giveaways, multipliers and changes to earning XP, and compares the day of each and the two days after with the same three days a week earlier. A change larger than the server's usual swing shows in colour.

Where Sentiment is on, Impact also compares net sentiment, for team members who can read Sentiment. A window with fewer than 5 people or 20 analysed messages reads as Not enough data.

If it doesn't work

  • A mark from a rule is late. Rules look for new posts every 5 minutes.
  • An annotation isn't on Impact yet. Its day and the two days after must be over, and the days before it need enough messages, voice and joins to compare with.
  • Impact is missing. It shows only on this week, not on past weeks.
